Preparing your body for pregnancy is a great choice for the health of both you and your baby. Having an active pregnancy carries the benefits of less pelvic pain, less physical and emotional stress, better cardiovascular health, and an easier birth and recovery. Not only does this translate to better outcomes for you, but for your baby as well. Full Circle Physical Therapy and Wellness utilizes client education and therapeutic exercise to empower their clients to know how to strengthen and stay active during pregnancy. There is a lot of misinformation on exercising during pregnancy, and our doctoral-level physical therapists will guide you in the right direction with current, evidence-based practices.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends exercise 3-4 times a week for 30-60 minutes per session for a total of 150 minutes per week. The intensity of exercise should be "somewhat hard," meaning you raise your heart rate and start sweating. Activities can be walking, stationary biking, aerobics, resistance training and specific pelvic floor and core exercises. Before initiating exercise, consult your medical care team about any obstetric or medical complications that would contraindicate exercise during pregnancy. Our physical therapists make specific recommendations based on your individual history and activity level, developing a unique plan that shifts with every stage of your own journey. Ongoing assessments ensure that your pregnancy workouts and exercises are safe, effective and fun. Building strength before pregnancy is an effective preventative measure to support your health for pregnancy and delivery, as well as for the rest of your life.
